Things to Do

So much more than you expected.
When you think "horsepower," what springs to mind? And when's the last time you toured an iron furnace? Things are a little different here. We invite you to experience our unique area.

The Dutch Country Roads region is chock-full of opportunities to do something new. Tour a working Amish farm, see how motorcycles are made, or just drive along the back roads and admire the tidy countryside. Tour our many Civil War sites, explore the city of Harrisburg, or sample some of the world's best chocolate in Hershey.

Kids especially love it here—but who doesn't love farm animals and amusement parks? Grownups like the shopping; this is the place for the exquisite quilts, baskets, and practical items the Amish are known for as well as some of the best designer factory outlets anywhere. And our arts scene is surprisingly sophisticated. Theatre, music, and dance companies ensure there's always something to see here.

Vibrant and alive, the Dutch Country Roads region is constantly changing—but a few things remain the same, generation after generation. It's a new twist on tradition. Choose an activity to explore, then start your own traditions by paying us a visit.

Activities

Jacob Zook's Hex Shop
What are those colorful round signs gracing our Amish barns? They're hex signs - highly stylized and symbolic folk art that serve many purposes. Their main purpose nowadays is decoration, and you can pick up just the right sign at this traditional hex shop. Plain or fancy, you'll find the sign that speaks to you and reminds you of your trip to Dutch Country.
